Roe Vs Wade - A paradox that can be solved.
First, I am pro-life (in as much as I believe that Life begins at conception) that said, I also believe, like what I've read in the Bible and discussed with others that God gives us free will. We each have to make choices and there are consequences for those choices (good and bad!).
A couple of years back, my daughter went with a group of kids and adults from our community to the annual March For Life Campaign in the Nations Capital.
Upon her return, she was a bit moody and frustrated. One of the things I love about her is that she is willing and wanting to talk with me. After some gentle encouragement, I asked her what was wrong? After much internal conflict and emotional tug and pull, she shared the following.
"Dad, I don't get it, we went down to show our support and for the most part, we're rediculed for standing up for the rights of the unborn. People yelled for us to go home and stop wasting their time. Some people went to see their congressman or senator, only to find out they were "out of town". While those who were there, listened and supported us, but couldn't really do anything. It's like, preaching to the converted. The one's we needed to share with, didn't care to hear us and our concerns. I feel that it was a waste of time and money."
I had to agree with her observation and was impressed with her adult view of the world as well as her summation of a very complex, yet simple, issue.
Our discussion and solution, was truly inspiring! Instead of marching on Washington just to make the front page one day a year, truly make a positive impact for the buck!
Our Constitution gaurantees us that our persons (our bodies) belong to us. The Roe vs Wade Court case, I believe, has far reaching impact to protect citizens who may have or would be forced or subjected to an infrignment of their bodies.
So, instead of spending millions of dollars in transportation costs, lodging and meals in Washington, DC, redirect those hard earned monies to your local pregnancy or Right to Life Program. Work with grass roots to share that abortions are not the only option available. Not by force, but with love and grace, not looking to blame or judge, but to empower the mother to consider "life" and the positive contributions that the child she bore may have on the future. I think that adoption, for example, is the most selfless action a mother, who didn't plan the pregnancy, could bless a couple who may not otherwise be able to have one. If you don't have such a local organization, there are ways that you can send funds to a reputable State Wide Adoption Agency (SWAN) to help defray the costs of adoptions or hard to place children.
The upside is that we, as a community, as a person, who believes in the sanctity of life starts at conception, are able to non-judgementally offer a positive alternative. Where the pregnant mother can find help, love, support and financial solution to have a baby.
It will also send a message to Pro-Choice that we understand your position, while we disagree with taxpayer funded abortions, we understand that it is a human beings choice and is not taken lightly.
Let's help those questionning their options, a positive, non force or intrusive action to give her all available support and options to make an informed choice.
God gives us all free will. We sometimes overreach in confusing His Will verses His Desire. But ultimately, we all have the choice. Sticks and stones resolves very little when Love, Respect and Empowerment have far better results.
